Rising above Mumbai's skyline, Lodha Kiara combines architectural refinement with thoughtfully planned residences designed to maximise daylight, views and spatial flexibility. These qualities have made it an appealing canvas for designers, including Iram Boxwala, Founder and Principal Designer of Iram Boxwala Design Studio, who returns to the development to create Vana, an earthy, minimal home where nature and vastu form the foundation of the brief.

The word ‘vana’ is derived from the Sanskrit word for ‘forest’’. True to its name, it is warm, earthy and layered with subtle colours and textures. The homeowners arrived with a clear visual direction, drawing inspiration from colourful wallpapers, earthy fabrics, soft pastels, fluted textures, river-washed marbles and richly grained veneers. The result is a home that balances warmth and personality with a carefully considered material palette.

Where Craft Takes Centre Stage

The home exudes elegance while being impeccably utilitarian. The moment you arrive, the simplicity of the veined marble floor meets a sleek custom console by Dtale Modern. From here, gentle curves and warm wooden finishes guide the eye inward to a living area that makes you pause in wonder. The white-hued space is bright, airy and arranged along the large windows to maximise natural light and city views. It is this very idea that makes it the designer's favourite spot in the home.

Defined by a muted sectional sofa and a round marble coffee table, the furniture arrangement in the living room leans decisively into modern comfort. The geometric textiles, sculptural wall sconces and the textured carpet enhance the room’s serenity. Fluted detailing and warm timber finishes culminate at the TV unit, where a book-matched marble slab introduces a dramatic focal point.

The space is all about quiet cohesion.

Treading a fine line between subtlety and opulence, the dining room reveals itself through rich, carefully considered details. Soft curves, irregularly shaped mirrors, fluted finishes and ingeniously assembled decor reinforce the holistic theme of organic shapes. Pristine marble punctuates the home at every turn, appearing on the dining table top and across the console that speaks of permanence and craftsmanship. But, the home’s pièce de résistance is the mandir. Its heavy swivel doors, intricately chiselled with a concentric design, are engineered in metal and wrapped in veneer. A hidden pull-out bench further underscores the home’s emphasis on thoughtful functionality.

The transition from public to private spaces is handled with equal attention to detail. A fluted glass door with curved detailing leads you to a private chamber, through a corridor lined with family photos and collected wall plates. Boxwala gives each bedroom a distinct identity while maintaining the home’s overarching material palette and design language.

The smallest bedroom connects directly to the living room, which doubles as a guest bedroom. Discreet elements like subtle blue tones on the headboard, river-washed marble and a TV unit layered with cane and oak veneers complete the space. Meanwhile, the pink bedroom leans into a vibrant yet soothing palette, defined by pastel wallpaper, a charming cane-finished wardrobe and a curved dressing unit. The master bedroom blends clean lines with a soft palette of warm wood, white PU and blush tones.

Through her nuanced use of materiality and texture, Iram Boxwala has created a home that feels both grounded and deeply personal. Veined marble, warm timber finishes and thoughtfully integrated vastu principles come together in a way that supports everyday living while retaining a strong sense of individuality.
